The Torah of Angela Davis

A Prophetic Voice of Our Times

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute rescinded the 2019 Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award from honoree Angela Davis because of her support for Palestinian freedom.

I designed this zine as part of a campaign I organized of Shabbats held across the country to demonstrate unwavering Jewish solidarity with Davis and Palestine, which helped to challenge the media’s narrative of division and contribute to the pressure that ultimately led the Institute to reoffer her the award.

The Torah of Angela Davis was used at nearly 50 Shabbats held simultaneously across the country, including one held in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, which was attended by Amy Goodman and featured on Democracy Now!
